Hey. Does anyone here live in the boston newton brookline area? I am new, but have wanted and been doing my share of learning about dreadlocks for a long time, and the time has come. I have been planning on going to a african place (really, the dont even speak english) to get them done. I havve blond hair. I had braids like 5 months ago:[IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/righteousbabe/ddd89691.jpg
I NEED THEM BEFORE WED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!im a tad bit desperate
This is my hair now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/righteousbabe/SundayInBackBay5-29-05008.jpg
Will this dread? Someone told me they knew someone who had blond hair and it dreaded very strange in wrong directions...?
Is it possible for me to have thin dreads?
I was introduced to dreads by ani difranco, who remains my idol, and role model, and mostinfluential person in my life, as well as the one and only bob marley. Current Mood: anxious

Feel free to join whichever one suits your needs (if it indeed suits any needs!)
And bear with me while i create and Pimp them out ;)
Also feel free to join my existing community ilovesurferbois
Which is a fun community for people who like drooling over cute surfer boys or happen to be a cute surfer boy :D

i'm a wee bit new to the dreads and the pirates as i have had dreads for only a few weeks and i shall be a pirate next week. i be leaving for a ship on the high seas defending sea life and ocean bio-diversity (big word for a pirate, but i be a smart one). i be volunteering for a group called sea shepherd conservation society and they be some dirty kelp-huggers like some of you may be, fellow crusty pirates.
so i be wondering... me maytie braided me hair and we be rolling at the ends of it all the time but it does not lock. i have some very curly hair and if i do not brush it for three days it matts up on its own, but now it decides to curl up into cute tiny ringlets that are quite unbefitting to a tough pirate like me. i wash it with dr bronners and no conditioner and hope that it gets dry and tangly, but to my dismay it stays shiny and tangle-less. perhaps my fellow dreaded pirates are privvy to some information?
stay well, and may your days be filled with booty!

DIY fundraising call
Dear Friends -
The invasion of Boston so often politely referred to as the “democratic national convention” draws nigh. Kerry’s repeated flip-flopping and refusal to take a stand on much of anything outside of agreeing with Bush shows our two party democracy plainly as the scam it truly is. You can have your choice of whichever pro-war, pro-curtailing of civil liberties, pro-helping the wealthy and screwing everyone else candidate you want.
Those of us involved with the Bl(A)ck Tea Society fervently hope and believe that we can do much better than this. To illustrate our disgust and bewilderment with the current state of affairs, we are engaging in a three pronged plan. The first is to highlight our alternatives to monstrously ineffective representative democracy with the “really really democratic bazaar”. The second is to maintain a convergence center for the duration of the event, and the third is decentralized direct action. However, dissent doesn’t come cheaply and quite frankly, we need money to make this all happen. Most of the larger progressive groups have decided that anything is better than another four years of Bush, and are avoiding any protest or criticism of the Democrats. This means that we are having an extremely difficult time getting any sort of funding or grants from more established and fiscally stronger groups. This is where you, the DIY promoter, come in. Boston goes through boom and bust times of easy availability for DIY shows and other events. Right now, space seems to be kind of tight, to the frustration of everyone attempting to raise some money through benefit shows and other events. Also, there are a limited amount of people who come to these events in Boston, and you can only put so much of the burden on such a relatively small group of people. To such ends, we encourage, beseech, and extol all of you in other cities and towns to do what you can to help us make enough money to do our work. Book us a benefit show. Throw a yardsale or a bake sale. Start a lemonade stand. Have a poker night. A keg party. Any kind of solidarity would be greatly appreciated.

Gather Ye Round
"It's Lonely Being a Cannibal"
We recently dreaded Ravel (it's her second time) and Girgamoff shall be dreaded come summer. We are the core components of the vicious commandeers known as the Crew Of The Pillar of Confidence. Our chosen vessel of warfare (The Pillar itself) is a white subaru station wagon. In it our activities are too heinous to describe. To be vague, we merrily rape and pillage to the soundtrack of Necro. Do Not Cross Us or You Will Be Sorry. We spare none in our wake.
Observe my (Lily the Terrible's) dread headed glory (lounging, in true pirate style):
You bloody Pirate enthusiasts you. Get your own damn colors. You ruddy wannabes. Hear the rustling of our flag in the wind.
Here is a Carebare coloring book representation (for your viewing pleasure): Current Mood: predatory
